SRQ Breaks Ground on New 5-Gate Terminal

After finishing up the busiest March in the history of SRQ Airport, construction of its new terminal expansion project has begun. Connected to the east end of the ticket wing, the new five-gate terminal will cover 75,300 square feet and include a four-lane security checkpoint and five boarding hold rooms with 970 seats. The new terminal will also offer a variety of amenities and services for passengers including a new bar, café, restaurant and marketplace in the double-height connector hall. 

Sea Turtle Season Begins May 1st

Mote Marine Laboratory documented the first local sea turtle nest of 2023 on Tuesday, April 18 in Casey Key. “Today marks the earliest documented nest in our program’s history, which might mean, we’re in for a busy season, and it is more important than ever before that we do as much as we can to keep our beaches turtle-friendly, ”said Melissa Macksey, Senior Biologist with Mote’s Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program.Remember to utilize turtle-friendly bulbs and fixtures, utilize window treatments, remove all beach furniture that may impede a turtle’s progress, and tint or film glass with an inside-to-outside light transmittance value of 45% or less.
