Sarasota’s Fast Growth Continues

The Sarasota-Bradenton market has once again cracked the top tier in a national ranking, this time taking the No. 4 spot for fast growth according to a list by U-Haul, one of the country’s most well-known moving and storage companies. Sarasota-Bradenton ranked just below two other Florida cities in the listing — the Palm Bay-Melbourne area and Ocala, which were ranked first and second for growth respectively — and Charleston, S.C., which was third. For the third straight year, Florida ranked second in the nation behind Texas among growth states U-Haul shared in its early January growth index findings.

Longboat Key Resident Survey

The fifth annual town of Longboat Key Citizen Satisfaction Survey will arrive in mailboxes starting the week of Jan. 10. The town is asking all residents to participate in the survey to provide feedback on aspects such as policy issues, the quality of town amenities and departmental services like police, fire rescue and Public Works. In the mailer, a unique code is sent to residents along with a set of instructions for accessing the 50-question online survey. The survey can be completed on a device at home, or by utilizing a kiosk in Town Hall. All answers are anonymous. If residents do not receive a letter in the mail by Jan. 18, the town advises to call or text 941-281-4985.

Sarasota County Introduces Tool for New Residents

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sarasota county adds an average of 35 new residents each day. To assist newcomers in settling into Sarasota County, UF/IFAS Extension now offers a new tool to help ease that transition: the Sarasota County Starter Kit. The kit includes free classes and other tools to serve as a guide to living on the Suncoast, equipping both newcomers and longtime residents alike with essential information from saving on utilities to coexisting with local wildlife. Starter Kit classes begin Jan. 17, with new offerings available every two weeks. Classes are free, open to the public and offered online.

Architecture Sarasota Launches New Program

Architecture Sarasota is launching ‘Downtown Sarasota: Hindsight, Insight and Foresight,’ a four-part speaker series conceived to spark an informed and constructive communitywide discussion about Sarasota’s future. Tickets for the series are $35 or $10 per lecture and can be purchased here. For information, call 352-219-4122. Art Ovation Hotel is located at 1255 N. Palm Ave., Sarasota.
