The Bay project submitted its site plan giving Sarasota its first detailed look at the first phase of the project. The site plan filed includes an open lawn, a spiral boardwalk over the water, a food and beverage pavilion and a mangrove bayou. Over the next month, city staff will review the application before it is sent to the development review committee. Public hearings before the planning board and then the city commission for final consideration are expected sometime in the first quarter of 2020.
 
To say that the airport has been experiencing growth over the past two years would be an understatement. Three new airlines have joined Sarasota-Bradenton’s fleet in the past two years and passenger growth has skyrocketed for 21 straight months. To deal with the increase in capacity, the airport plans to add 150 additional parking spaces in 2020. There’s still room to grow at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. There are hopes to add some more western destinations – like Houston and Denver. Service to the Northeast and the Midwest will continue to grow, and hopes are service to Canada will expand – maybe even with a flight to Montreal.
 
The Florida Chamber Foundation’s chief economist is predicting that a net 900 people per day will move to Florida this year, an uptick from the 640 person per day rate experienced in 2019. With rising consumer confidence, the state will add 200,000 jobs this year. That would have Florida outpacing the national job growth. The economist also said Florida’s probability for a recession continues to decline.
