Golden Gate Point's Busiest Fall Calendar Belongs to the Park Next Door

The Bay is holding more than 70 free events in the 32 days from October 1 to November 1, under the name One Park FOUR All, to mark the park's fourth anniversary. Across the same stretch of bayfront, The Quay has one confirmed new business so far in 2026. That's Foxtail Coffee Co., which opened in June. For people living on Golden Gate Point, that gap shapes the season. Most of what's new within walking distance this fall is happening in a park run by a conservancy, with no admission charge.

The momentum also runs past November. The park's calendar is booked through mid-December. The Bay's own restaurant is still a year out, and the biggest private opening nearby is members-only. All of this is happening while the road at the peninsula's entrance is under construction.

Six signature events, one month

The anniversary schedule mixes one-off parties with the park's regular programming. The Bay lists festivals, live music, movies, dance, Opera at The Bay, fitness, and family activities across the month. Six events are billed as signature events, and the park calls them annual traditions:

Date Event Time What's on the program
Wed, Oct. 7 Salsa & Sunsets Community Celebration 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Anniversary toast, live music, Latino-inspired dance party
Fri, Oct. 9 The Rocky Horror Picture Show 9 to 11 p.m. Outdoor screening
Sun, Oct. 11 Park-toberfest 5 to 7 p.m. Live music, a steinhoisting contest, chicken dancing, German-inspired fare
Sat, Oct. 17 Boo! at The Bay Family Halloween 5 to 7:45 p.m. Costumes, trick-or-treating, free pumpkin picking, a family movie
Sun, Oct. 25 Taste of The Bay Food Festival Noon to 3 p.m. Signature dishes from locally owned restaurants, presented by Sarasota-Manatee Originals
Sun, Nov. 1 Best of The Bay Music Fest 1 to 7 p.m. All-day regional music lineup

Taste of The Bay matters most to the argument here. For three hours on a Sunday afternoon, the park becomes the place in this part of downtown with the most locally owned restaurants in one spot. It does that with tents, without leasing any storefronts. Each event links to its own Eventbrite registration from the park's anniversary page. Checking that page before you head out is the easiest way to confirm a time hasn't moved.

What the commercial side added this year

Foxtail Coffee Co. opened its second Sarasota County café on June 17 at 468 Quay Commons, Suite G. It serves coffee plus a full breakfast and lunch menu. The Orlando-based company opened its first location in the county at University Town Center in December 2023. That makes the Quay café the only Foxtail downtown. The café's location page lists daily hours.

Foxtail joins Ocean Prime, which already had its two-story restaurant open at 501 Quay Commons in 2025. The Herald-Tribune describes The Quay as a waterfront landmark since 1985 that is converting from an entertainment center into a luxury mixed-use district. Today it has apartments and restaurants. We checked local coverage and couldn't find any other Quay restaurant or shop opening in 2026. That doesn't rule out a smaller opening that went unreported, but it fits a district that's adding new places carefully, one at a time.

The biggest new name nearby isn't inside The Quay. 1000 North, the private club and restaurant co-founded by Michael Jordan, was expected to open in October at the BLVD building, 520 N. Tamiami Trail. Before opening, it bought the property next door at 1290 Boulevard of the Arts. That adds just over 10,500 square feet to a planned space of about 13,000 square feet. The plans include private dining rooms, a wine lounge, members' wine and liquor lockers, and an upstairs lounge. As of early October we hadn't found confirmation that it has opened. Either way, it's for members. The new places nearby that anyone can walk into are still mostly in the park.

The calendar keeps going after the anniversary

Once the anniversary ends on November 1, the regular schedule takes over. The Bay's November calendar lists recurring free fitness classes: Mat Pilates, The Y: Primetime+, Bootcamp, Tai Chi/Qigong, Namaste at The Bay Yoga, and Zumba. The Sundays at The Bay concert series has four November dates:

  • Nov. 8: Pops Orchestra Brass Quintet
  • Nov. 15: Clover's Revenge
  • Nov. 22: Matthew Frost Band
  • Nov. 29: Grace Burke & Gannon Torrella

November also brings Salsa & Sunsets, Dancing with Donald, two Cinema at The Bay screenings of All The President's Men and Top Gun, and Moderns that Matter, an architecture tour of The Bay. Free guided kayak tours run by the park are also on that month's calendar. The December listings run through Dec. 19. They include Salsa & Sunsets, Zumba with Yaël Campbell, Dancing with Donald, and Moderns that Matter.

If you want to be on the water, Ride & Paddle rents kayaks and paddleboards from the park launch Friday through Sunday. It lists October hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and two-hour rentals. Its sunset tours run Nov. 27 to 29, Dec. 4 to 6, and Dec. 26 and 27. The page was first published in 2023, so confirm times on the booking calendar before you go.

On a single weekend in late November, you could fit in a free yoga class, a Sunday concert, and a sunset paddle without ever leaving the bayfront. The commercial district doesn't offer that much range yet.

The park's own food and gathering space are still being built

The Bay's events depend on outside vendors partly because its permanent places to eat and gather aren't finished. Phase 2 covers 14 acres with a $65 million program. It's underway and expected to be complete in 2027. Its town square, called The Plaza, sits between the Municipal Auditorium and Chidsey Library. It's planned around a shade structure with space for gatherings and events. The conservancy's timeline targets October 2026 for the town square. As of Oct. 4, we hadn't found an announced opening date.

The first of three planned restaurants at The Bay is set for fall 2027. It will be at the former Coast Guard station by the boat-launch basin, designed by Sweet Sparkman Architecture and operated by Venice Pier Group. Phase 3 concepts include a larger Centennial Park boat ramp and day docks, more vehicle and trailer parking, and a parking deck beside the Municipal Auditorium in place of the surface lot. Full buildout is targeted for the end of 2029. In August, the Bay Park Conservancy and Gulf Coast Community Foundation launched a $2 million challenge-match campaign. It supports finishing the park and its long-term upkeep.

Until that first restaurant opens, food at The Bay comes through events like Taste of The Bay and Park-toberfest. Those are the dates when the park offers the most to eat.

Leaving the point while the entrance is raised

Every one of these outings starts by driving or walking off the peninsula, and the entrance is a work zone this season. The Florida Department of Transportation started work on SR 789 from Bird Key Drive to Sunset Drive on January 5. The $12.3 million project covers bicycle and transit lanes on the bridge, drainage improvements, a higher seawall cap near Sunset Drive, resurfacing, and new traffic signals at Sunset Drive, Golden Gate Drive, and Bird Key Drive. The City expects it to finish in early 2027. FDOT's own project page still shows "Late 2025" as the finish, which the City's January notice has since replaced.

The Golden Gate Point Association says the road at its entry will be raised one to two feet, with drainage work toward Hart's Landing. It expects about a year of work, mostly with overnight lane closures and one lane kept open in each direction. That schedule mostly keeps daytime outings and early-evening events like Salsa & Sunsets clear of the closures. Late events like the 9 p.m. Rocky Horror screening may run into them.

Two other bayfront projects are on their own timelines. Bayfront Park's seawall repair is paused. The City expects work to resume in late 2026 and finish in early 2027. The Herald-Tribune reported that 30 trees are being removed for that seawall rebuild. At Hart's Landing, the association says FDOT contracted to repair damaged roads, sidewalks, and seawall, with work expected to begin in early 2026. The City's recovery tracker lists a separate project for the dock, shop, and restrooms that is still in design. The dock work is expected to start in 2029, and the full project to finish in 2031.

The Bruce Myer Group follows what opens, what's delayed, and what's being built around Golden Gate Point, because those changes shape daily life on the peninsula. If you have questions about the area or your plans there, Bruce Myer is glad to talk with you about your real estate plans.
