North Longboat Key

Would you prefer to live on a barrier island situated between 2 gorgeous water bodies? That’s North Longboat Key Neighborhood for you. It has Sarasota Bay on one side and Gulf Of Mexico on the other. With such a location, it comes as no surprise that it features some of the costliest real estate in Florida. The island, however, offers much more than beautiful sunsets.

Longboat Key has witnessed steady development and high real estate demand despite being a barrier island. That’s primarily because of its excellent location just south of Anna Maria Island, North of St. Armands Circle, and its proximity to other areas like Bradenton Beach. It’s a unique island since North Longboat Key comes under Manatee county and South Longboat Key comes under Sarasota county. The excellent location and amenities have led to population growth. Currently, the island is home to approximately 7500 people.

As a Longboat Key realtor, I can tell you the island has witnessed consistent development and a steady rise in population and real estate demand.

Longboat Key, especially the North End, has a rich and diverse history. Today, the northern part is home to the Longboat Village. A couple of centuries ago, Native Americans called this land home. From 1842 to 1891, it was also occupied by Cuban and Spanish Fishermen. In 1882, the northern part was occupied by European colonists, who occupied it until 1891.

It was only in the 1910s that Longboat Key started gaining attention among people living on the mainland. Around this time, a community named Longbeach flourished on the island, followed by another known as Island Beach. This was also the time when the island got its post office. Even though hurricanes impacted the island’s growth and agriculture, it recovered from those setbacks.

Finally, in 1955, the town of Longboat Key was incorporated, after which the island gained popularity among tourists and people looking to live in a picturesque location.
